Joel Klatt believes Miami is ranked too high in College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings
The undefeated Miami Hurricanes came in at No. 4 in the initial College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings.
However, not everyone is sold on Mario Cristobal’s squad at this point in the season. That includes Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt, who noted some key issues he has with Miami — mainly the fact that they will finish the regular season without a win over a ranked opponent.
However, the same can be said about both Indiana and BYU. Both programs have also found themselves within the top 12 in the initial CFP rankings.
“[Miami’s] got wins right now over Louisville and Duke — those are their best wins,” Klatt said on Wednesday. “Their strength of schedule is No. 46, so granted, it’s a higher than Indiana and BYU, but you look up and it’s like, they aren’t controlling games like those other two teams. And by the way, not even close. They’ve given up 31 points in four of their last five games.

Travis Hunter makes case to lift Heisman Trophy
“We’ve seen them play thes really tight, weird games with teams like Virginia Tech and Cal. They got really lucky to win both of those games … and yet, they’re sitting way up there at No. 4.”
That isn’t to say that Klatt isn’t a fan of Miami’s high-powered offense led by Heisman Trophy hopeful Cam Ward at quarterback. Under his guidance, the ‘Canes have scored 50 or more points in five games this season.
“I love Cam Ward, and I think that Miami’s done a really nice job,” Klatt continued. “And at this point, with my Clemson crumbling to the ground — and I’m gonna own that one. Miami is likely gonna win the ACC, so I like Miami. I’m just telling you that, like, based on the resume, their resume, their their eye test, they don’t look quite like Indiana and BYU.”
Still, Miami has been able to pull out every victory, and the playoff committee appears to have rewarded those three undefeated teams in the 12-team model. With three games left in the regular season for the ‘Canes, an undefeated CFP berth is inching closer to reality for Cristobal and company.
