The Miami Hurricanes are going through a coaching staff change that brought in Mario Cristobal as head coach and Josh Gattis as offensive coordinator. They didn’t find a bare cupboard, though. The Hurricanes have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. One of those key players is Romello Brinson, a young wide receiver.

As a freshman, Romello Brinson played in four games, to preserve the season as a redshirt year. He also scored his first college touchdown against Central Connecticut State. Now, he’s becoming an important part of the Miami offense under Josh Gattis.

“You know, Romello is a smart guy,” Josh Gattis said. “He’s a smart football player. He has the ability to play all over the field as far as receiver for us.”

“But, he’s another guy who didn’t play in the Spring. So, you know, he’s got a lot of catching up to do. He did a good job learning the offense. Now, it’s about going out there, being comfortable, and executing at a high level,” Josh Gattis concluded.

As Josh Gattis pointed out, Romello Brinson missed Spring practice for an undisclosed reason. That is always going to hurt the transition that a player has to a new coaching staff and offense. He needs to learn how things are done on the fly, now.

At the same time, Romello Brinson’s natural talent and versatility can’t be ignored. He provides plenty of options for Josh Gattis. It’s just a matter of finding where Brinson is most comfortable and how he can best help the Miami offense.
