Kam Kinchens carted off the field following scary injury

Saturday produced a scary scene for the Miami Hurricanes as star safety and Florida native Kam Kinchens went down with an injury. It is unclear what injury has been suffered, but the medical cart has been brought out to the field for the defensive back All-American.

The injury occurred on a fourth and eight for the Aggies from their own 27-yard line. Texas A&M’s quarterback Conner Wingman found wide receiver Ainias Smith to beat the Hurricanes zone defense. Kinchens came in low to make the tackle, taking Smith to the ground. But as the Aggies wideout got up from the ground, Kinchens laid there motionless, prompting an immediate injury timeout.

According to the ESPN broadcasting crew, Kinchens was alert and aware. Unfortunately, they did not notice any movement in the lower part of his body. Kinchens will be taken to a nearby trauma unit for further evaluation.

After Miami pulled out a victory, Cristobal said Kinchens was already taking a step in the right direction as his health was “relatively normal,” according to Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times.

Aside from the unfortunate injury to Kinchens, Miami was able to successfully get revenge on Texas A&M for last year’s 17-9 defeat in College Station.

Last year, the Hurricanes struggled in the red zone, failing to get into the end zone as they settled for three field goals in the game. This year, head coach Mario Cristobal’s offense was firing on all cylinders as they shredded the Aggies’ defense.

Five of their six touchdowns scored on offense were courtesy of Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke who threw for 374 yards with five passing touchdowns.

Still, it is difficult for fans and the program to celebrate the victory over their top-25 opponent, while one of their most beloved player and his family are dealing with a terrifying-looking injury. Luckily, the initial update should raise their spirits.
