Louisiana Tech DL transfer David Blay commits to Miami
Former Louisiana Tech defensive lineman David Blay has committed to Miami out of the NCAA transfer portal, he tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Blay became one of the most productive defensive tackles in the country last season for LA Tech, totaling 46 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. For his efforts, Blay is a top-five defensive lineman in the portal, per the On3 Industry Rankings, at the time of his commitment.
Before college, Blay played at Harry S. Truman High School outside of Philadelphia before going to West Chester to play at the Division II level during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. After redshirting his first season, the 6-foot-4, 304-pound interior defensive lineman totaled 13 tackles for loss and five sacks in 11 games for the Rams as a redshirt freshman.
The first-team All-Conference USA selection had a big showing against major competition as well, logging five tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack against Arkansas on Nov. 23.
Mario Cristobal and his recruiting staff landed Blay’s services over the likes of Penn State, Arkansas, Florida State, Illinois, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, USC and Wisconsin.

He joins a Miami team that is set to take on Iowa State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Dec. 28.
The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.
That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
