Mario Cristobal: ‘Bull crap’ from Miami players on unsportsmanlike conduct penalties
Mario Cristobal was infuriated following Miami’s loss to Louisville due to some boneheaded penalties taken by the Hurricanes.
Cristobal’s team was upset with the referees, and Miami let them know. However, it resulted in a couple untimely penalties for the Hurricanes. In the end, it was part of what costed Miami one of their biggest wins in the last two seasons.
Moving forward, Cristobal is looking to nip stuff like that in the bud, as he believes there’s no place for it on his squad.
“I jump all over that, it’s crap. It’s complete, utter, unacceptable, immaturity, from a couple of guys that have play really, really well. So you’ve got to use it as a teaching moment,” Cristobal said. “You’ve got to go right at them hard. It’s a bunch of bull crap. That ain’t it. You know, we all get upset, and maybe get tugged and a guy hits you. It don’t matter. They have the flags, they’re going to throw them when they need to throw them.
“We can’t do that. We’re not going to revert to that. We’ve got to fix it, we’re going to fix it.”
Alas, it’s certainly been a better Year 2 for Mario Cristobal than his first season on the job. Even with last weekend’s loss, Miami is looking to finish strong in Week 13, as they’ll face Boston College on Friday.
We’re willing to bet the dumb penalties will be kept to a minimum by Miami, if Mario Cristobal has anything to do with it.
Mario Cristobal: Jordan Travis is in our thoughts and prayers
There are some things that you put a rivalry aside for. The catastrophic injury to Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis is one of those things and that’s exactly what Miami head coach Mario Cristobal has done.

Cristobal explained that, even though he hasn’t personally reached out to anyone at Florida State, Travis is in everyone’s thoughts and prayers.
“A lot of times I don’t reach out to coaches, personally, just because of the hustle and bustle of the day,” Mario Cristobal said. “I can tell you that he is in our thoughts and prayers and personally in mine.”
The Florida State Seminoles are unbeaten this season, largely because of quarterback Jordan Travis. Unfortunately, his season is now over, after suffering a catastrophic leg injury against North Alabama while scrambling on Saturday.
In place of Jordan Travis, Tate Rodemaker came into the game for Florida State and led the Seminoles to an easy win. That pushed the Seminoles to 11-0 on the season. However, there are still more than a few questions about Florida State’s season moving forward in the wake of the injury. At the same time, for people like Mike Norvell, the focus is on Travis’ health.
“I like to say you block it out. You don’t,” Norvell said. “Coming in, we knew this was Jordan Travis’ last game at Doak Campbell Stadium. I wanted to see him have a special game, special experience, you know. And for anytime somebody gets hurt, it hurt. I mean, it’s painful to see. It’s painful to have to go through.”
