Miami football coach Mario Cristobal is now the proud owner of a new mansion. Photos emerged via Twitter on Monday of the coach’s luxurious new home, which he purchased at a reported value of $7.9 million.

The house is located near Cora Gables, and is close to the residences of former MLB star Alex Rodriguez and Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler. It is 8,800 square feet, features six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, a gym, a pool and a courtyard.

Cristobal is set to enter his first season with the Hurricanes in 2022 following a four-year stint with the Oregon Ducks. A Miami alumnus, he signed a massive 10-year deal worth a reported $80 million to take over as the coach of his alma mater.

That number raised several eyebrows, prompting U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) to launch an investigation in January into whether several Power 5 athletic departments had violated their nonprofit status by offering extravagant salaries to football and men’s basketball coaches. Miami’s contract with Cristobal was one of the first named in the probe. It’s unclear, however, how much power the probe actually holds.

Regardless, Cristobal is set to get to work rebuilding a Hurricanes program that has struggled to remain nationally relevant in recent years. After claiming five national titles between 1983-2001, Miami has made one major bowl game in the past decade (the Orange Bowl in 2017). Its last conference championship came in 2003.

Cristobal helped lead the Ducks to at least nine wins in three of his four years with the team, including a 12-2 finish in 2019 that included a Pac-12 Championship and Rose Bowl victory. Oregon claimed its second straight conference title under Cristobal in 2020, and made a third consecutive appearance in 2021 but lost to Utah.

The coach is set to make his debut as the Hurricanes head coach during the 2022 season opener against Bethune-Cookman, scheduled for Sept. 3. Mario Cristobal likely won’t get to spend much time at his mansion once the season begins, so one would imagine he’ll try to get as much use out of it as he can this offseason.
