Mario Cristobal provides injury update on long list of players
As if a 14-point loss at home as a nearly four-touchdown favorite wasn’t bad enough, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal shared an extensive injury list postgame.
Five different Hurricanes players either got dinged up during the game or, in the case of lineman Zion Nelson, didn’t dress for the contest with a prior injury. Notably, punter Lou Hedley got hurt pregame and couldn’t punt and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson didn’t play in the second half after being hurt during the first two quarters.
“Jalen [Rivers] was an ankle,” Cristobal said. “[Henry] Parrish is being evaluated, Tyrique, lower extremity. I don’t know how serious it was. Lou Hedley could not punt, he had a strain pregame so we went with Will Hutchinson. Forgot who else you mentioned — Zion. Zion didn’t play, Zion had to rest that knee.”
The spate of injuries is an unfortunately fitting capper to a pyrrhic day for Miami. Along with losing ignominiously to Middle Tennessee State — the Hurricanes never led and surrendered 408 passing yards on just 16 completions — now Miami is dealing with this laundry list of injuries.

“They coached better than us, they played better than us. They were better,” stated Cristobal. “We didn’t do a good enough job. There’s no excuse. Real men look in the mirror and do something about it, and don’t allow any cracks to happen from the inside.
“We all came here for a purpose and a reason, we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
