Mario Cristobal provides long list of injury updates after Week 6
Coming off of a 27-24 loss to North Carolina in Week 6, Miami coach Mario Cristobal provided injury updates on several Hurricanes players. Cristobal began by announcing that tight end Elijah Arroyo is out for the season, while also touching on the status of offensive lineman Justice Oluwaseun.
“Elijah will not be returning for the rest of the year,” Cristobal said. “He had a pretty significant injury. Justice hurt himself pretty good, so he did not return.”
Arroyo will end his season with five catches for 66 yards. Meanwhile, Mario Cristobal provided much more positive injury updates on four other Hurricane players, including center Jakai Clark and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. Both players exited Saturday with injuries and did not return.

“I think Jakai’s gonna be OK,” Cristobal said. “Tyrique Stevenson, they were checking him out just being safe and using protocol. Cyrus (Moss) had a dental thing where he couldn’t dress, but he’s fine now. Laurence Seymore, he should be back by next week. Should be a full-speed player.”

Offensive lineman Zion Nelson is one player who did not receive an injury update after he was ruled out moments before kickoff Saturday. The junior tackle is one of the most prominent fixtures on the Miami offensive line last season, but has only appeared in one game this year as he recovers from a knee procedure.
Saturday’s loss was the third straight for Miami, which dropped to 2-3 this season. Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke threw for nearly 500 yards and three touchdowns in the loss, but the ground game totaled just 42 yards. Van Dyke was also sacked twice, so perhaps the injuries to the offensive line played a part in the poor performance.
The Hurricanes will hope to turn things around next week when they face Virginia Tech at noon ET Saturday on the road.
