Mario Cristobal shares how Frank Ladson can help Miami prepare for Clemson
Mario Cristobal and his Miami Hurricanes will have a Tiger-sized problem this weekend when they take on one of the top teams in the ACC, Clemson. But this game might be even bigger for one current Hurricane and former Tiger, Frank Ladson. Ladson elected to jump teams and stay within the conference this offseason when he transferred to Miami to play for Cristobal.
With a complete understanding of how the Tigers’ program operates, the junior wide receiver knows a thing or two about what to expect on Saturday. And during a recent press meeting, Cristobal shared how Ladson is helping Miami prepare for Clemson.
“Well, I think it’s mostly just given a scouting report on personnel,” said Cristobal. “What they do on film, I don’t think you gain an advantage from that respect. I mean, he confirms everything that we see on tape. It’s a great football team, so there’s not really much deviation from what you see on tape and what he told us.

“More important, we know Frank continues to improve, and we want him to play a really good football game. That’s the best way he can help us.
As far as giving Ladson any additional coaching or motivation for Saturday’s game, Cristobal doesn’t do that. And even if he did, for him, this game should carry more than enough motivation on its own.

“Anything motivational for him to say; I have nothing motivational to say to him. Our players have the opportunity to play in a big game like this, I think the motivation should always be really high. And to calm him down, he’s a mature guy. We always make sure the focus is on what we’re doing and how we execute. So, I think Frank has handled that pretty well for the most part. So, all in all, I’m just looking forward to Frank playing his best game.”
The season has been a tough one for Ladson and the Miami offense, but he is still putting up much better stats than he ever did with Clemson. Last year for the Tigers, Ladson recorded just four receptions for 19 yards. This year he currently has 27 receptions for 298 yards with one touchdown.
Although the name of the game is winning, and Ladson’s contributions haven’t necessarily equaled more wins for the Hurricanes; this season, he got an opportunity to show what he can offer when on the field. And with the Miami native still having additional eligibility, he and the Hurricanes can run it back next year and put together a season worthy of an ACC championship.
