Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes are moving forward after their shocking loss to Georgia Tech over the weekend.

By now, the entire college football world has clowned Miami for their epic failure at the end of Saturday’s contest. So how will the Hurricanes move forward? Cristobal shined some light on how his team has reacted during his latest press conference.

“We’re a pretty tight group, so after the game, yesterday, today, it’s always constant communication. Sometimes it’s group meetings. Our leadership council, by the way, is one that is really, I would say they’re empowered, but they’re also very convicted in leading the right way, and doing the right things. Bringing others with them, and lifting other people up. They have a really good understanding of the adversity that comes with football, and how you make a decision when you’re pushing forward, and getting better and just shake it off,” explained Cristobal. “Wipe all the pity away, and go forward. That’s the only choice that we have in this program.

“That’s something that I think is important for us here at Miami, to make that the ability to bounce back strong, to make that tradition again. That used to be a very strong part of our tradition here. This is a great opportunity to go forward, and put forth our best foot, and play our best football going forward.”

At the least, the Hurricanes have the right mindset to get back on track. They’ll get to decide whether the loss sinks their season, or if they can rebound from it.

Miami has a date with the North Carolina Tar Heels this weekend, and it would’ve been a huge game if they won last weekend. Nevertheless, it’ll serve as a potential get-right game for the Hurricanes, at the least.

Mario Cristobal admits he accepted blame for loss in front of team

Alas, there are not too many ways to beat around the bush when it comes to Miami‘s loss to Georgia Tech. For absolutely no reason, Mario Cristobal saw his team lose the game.

Taking a knee would have kept the Hurricanes undefeated heading into the North Carolina matchup. Instead, a run play was called, a fumble occurred, and the Yellow Jackets miraculously wound up winners.

During his postgame press conference, Cristobal admitted Miami should have taken a knee. He went one step further on Monday, saying he took accountability for the loss in front of the team. If Cristobal is going to ask the players to do so when they mess up, he wants to do the same for them.

“We always talk openly and honestly and it’s no different,” Cristobal said. “The only way we do things here is that way. I think our team understands that, appreciates that. I think our team is a team that takes accountability as a whole and all think we can do better. We ask our players — we ask our coaches to do the same and that’s what I did.”
