The Miami Hurricanes were leading comfortably on the road against Temple 31-7 in the third quarter when bad luck struck for the Hurricanes in the form of two injuries. Midway through the third quarter, Hurricanes star offensive lineman and arguably the leader of their offense, center Matt Lee, went down with a lower leg injury. Shortly after Lee’s injury, running back Henry Parrish also had to leave the game favoring his left arm.

Lee, a senior from Oviedo, FL, went down when a Temple defender fell on the back of his leg. He attempted to get up and walk off the field under his own power but ended up falling back to the ground. It is currently believed to be a right ankle injury. If the Miami center can not return, while the impact may not be felt in this game, that could be significant as the Hurricanes start ACC play.

Parrish went down a little later in the same drive after taking a shot and then landing on his left shoulder. Behind the dominance of Miami’s offensive line, Parrish was shredding the Owls’ defense. When he went down with his injury, the redshirt junior running back was the Hurricanes’ leading rusher in the game with 16 carries, 139 yards, and two touchdowns.

The offense as a whole has been having their way with the Temple defense. Since the two Hurricanes’ offensive standouts went down with injuries, they have tacked on another 10 points to lead 41-7 in the fourth quarter. Starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has been on point against the Owls. The redshirt junior quarterback has completed 17 of 24 pass attempts for 220 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Van Dyke has also carried the ball twice for 39 yards.

The Hurricanes are well on their way to picking up their fourth win of the season, taking a 4-0 record into ACC play. Hopefully, the injuries to Lee and Parrish are not too significant, and both will be back next weekend when Miami hosts the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
