Isaiah Wong has made his decision. He’s staying at Miami.

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Dan Murphy reported Wong is staying with the Hurricanes despite his ultimatum Thursday regarding his NIL compensation. He said if it wasn’t increased, he’d enter the transfer portal in search of more opportunities. However, he’s still going through the NBA Draft process while maintaining his eligibility.

Murphy said he spoke with booster John Ruiz and Miami is planning to work with Wong to help find more NIL opportunities in the area and keep him with Jim Larrañaga’s group.

Wong was an integral piece to the Hurricanes’ Elite Eight run in this year’s NCAA Tournament, averaging 15.3 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists per game. Keeping him in town is important for Larrañaga, who also brought in Kansas State transfer Nijel Pack from the portal.

Wong issued his ultimatum to Miami on Thursday, saying he’d enter the transfer portal if his NIL compensation wasn’t increased, according to Jonathan Givony and Jeff Borzello of ESPN. His family also stated that Wong will maintain his eligibility in the 2022 NBA Draft and go through the draft process.

Another important note to mention is that the state of Florida’s current NIL laws prohibit school employees at Miami from arranging NIL deals for athletes.

Wong has a current NIL deal with LifeWallet and is looking for a raise after watching Nijel Pack sign with the Hurricanes. The former Kansas State star recently announced a two-year, $800,000 deal with LifeWallet and that likely caught Wong’s attention. Pack was also given a car in his deal with LifeWallet.

The majority of Miami’s NIL deals have been done by John Ruiz, the billionaire lawyer and founder of LifeWallet. He also signed Tyler Van Dyke, the Hurricanes’ promising young quarterback, to a NIL deal in the past few months.
