Miami landed the latest member of its 2024 recruiting class on Friday night. The Hurricanes earned a commitment from Miami Gardens (Fla.) Miami Central three-star linebacker Vincent Shavers, who chose them over Maryland and Rutgers.

Shavers’ decision elevated Miami’s 2024 class to No. 25 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. The Hurricanes’ group, which ranks No. 4 in the ACC, climbed three spots from No. 28.

“It feels great playing at the crib,” Shavers told Stephen Wagner of CaneSport on Jan. 24. “I was born down here. Why not put on for the crib? Why not play for the crib?”

Shavers is the No. 666 overall prospect and No. 74 linebacker in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 92 player in Florida.

The 6-foot-0, 205-pound recruit is currently the fourth highest-ranked player pledged to head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson, Clearwater (Fla.) Clearwater Academy International three-star safety Isaiah Thomas, Baton Rouge (La.) Southern University Lab School three-star cornerback Dylan Day are ranked ahead of him.

Robinson is currently the only blue-chip prospect committed to the Hurricanes. He chose Miami after its spring game last month.

“They showed me the most love and I want to stay home and put on for my city,” Robinson told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “I hate seeing Miami in the state it’s in and I just wanna be a part of bringing the city back.”

“It means everything to stay home to us because it’s been my dream since I was a kid,” he added.

Robinson was one of six April commitments for the Hurricanes. The others were Day, Thomas, Hollywood (Fla.) South Broward three-star running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey, Paramus (N.J.) Paramus Catholic three-star offensive tackle Juan Minaya and Gray (Ga.) Jones County three-star quarterback Judd Anderson.

Shreveport (La.) C.E. Byrd three-star kicker Abram Murray is also pledged to Miami. He chose Cristobal and Co. on July 31.

“I think it’s on the rise,” Anderson told On3’s Jeremy Johnson on April 7 about Miami. “It’s a place you want to be the next three to four years. Their offensive line is freshmen and they are absolutely humungous. You won’t find a bigger line in the country. Those wide receivers out wide are just crazy fast. It’s the place to be right now.”
