Miami coaches make midnight visit to 5-star Shemar Stewart
Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace defensive lineman Shemar Stewart is the top uncommitted prospect in the country, and he is down to three schools: Georgia, Miami and Texas A&M.
And while the Aggies have been considered the leaders in his recruitment for months now, Miami and new head coach Mario Cristobal have made him priority No. 1. And apparently, that means midnight visits from multiple members of the coaching staff.
On Friday, Stewart’s high school coach posted a photo of he and Stewart flanked by Miami assistants Joe Salave’a, Travaris Robinson, and DeMarcus Van Dyke.
Stewart is the No. 7 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is the nation’s No. 2 defensive lineman and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Florida.
As it stands today, the Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) gives Texas A&M a 65.6 percent chance of landing Stewart, but that is down slightly from last month. The reason is simple: Cristobal and the ‘Canes.

Mario Cristobal has made Shemar Stewart a “personal priority”
According to On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, “The Aggies have had the momentum for months, and he has visited College Station four times since the summer, but the Hurricanes are coming hard. Mario Cristobal has made Stewart a personal target, and Miami is a real threat to the Aggies. The Bulldogs are likely running third at this time.”
Shemar Stewart has official visits to Georgia (Jan. 21) and Miami (Jan. 28) set. And he mentioned he may take one more unofficial visit to Texas A&M before announcing his decision on Feb. 2.
“Coach Cristobal said I am a must-get for him and Miami as soon as we talked,” Stewart told Simmons a little more than two weeks ago. “He said I must stay home and that there is no other place but Miami for me. … It has been the same message since.”
