The Miami Hurricanes had an atrocious start to their game against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Saturday afternoon, turning the football over three times, including a pick-six from quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. The pick-six put the Blue Raiders up 10-0 early in the first quarter of Saturday’s contest and after it happened, the Miami fans in attendance decided to let the team know they were furious at their sluggish start.

Check it out below as Van Dyke drops back, has a pass deflected, picked off by MTSU defensive end Zaylin Wood and taken back for six points.

It was an atrocious start for the Hurricanes and they trailed 24-10 late in the second quarter. It’s far from the start Miami fans had hoped for. Van Dyke has looked out of sync with his receivers and the Hurricanes’ defense has blown some coverages in certain areas that have led to game-breaking plays for the MTSU Blue Raiders. Van Dyke has only completed 12 of 24 passes for 108 passing yards in the first half, while tossing one touchdown and two interceptions. In his defense, he did have one touchdown catch dropped in the end zone.

Middle Tennessee State head coach Rick Stockstill is no stranger to upsetting Power Five opponents during his time there. He’s taken down the Maryland Terrapins twice (2008 and 2009). He has also defeated Georgia Tech (2012), Missouri (2016), and Syracuse (2017). Adding Saturday’s upset of Miami gives him six total wins over Power Five opponents in his career with the Blue Raiders.

Miami simply got outplayed for most of Saturday’s game and there’s really no other way around it. Middle Tennessee just played better in every way and deserved the game. The ‘Canes eventually lost 45-31, in a game they clearly deserved to lose.

Middle Tennessee quarterback Chase Cunnigham made some absolutely beautiful throws, completing 64 percent of his passes for 408 yards through the air, while tossing three touchdowns and one interception. MTSU receivers D.J. England-Chisholm and Jaylin Lane both had spectacular performances, hauling in over 100 receiving yards apiece.
