Miami guard Austin Swartz plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Swartz averaged 5.9 points per game for the Hurricanes this season.

Swartz originally committed to Jim Larranaga before his retirement before the 2024-25 season. He stayed with the program to play for interim head coach Bill Courtney this season, but it does not appear he will play for new head coach Jai Lucas next season.

A former four-star recruit out of North Carolina, Swartz was the No. 51 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, per the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 13 shooting guard in his class, and No. 5 player in his home state.

Swartz played in 29 of Miami’s games this past season, but his minutes per game fluctuated throughout the season. During his last two games in a Miami uniform, he averaged 35.5 minutes per game where he scored 14 points in a five-point loss to Georgia Tech, and eight points and three steals in a win against NC State during the regular season finale.

His best performance came during Miami’s non-conference schedule. Despite it coming during a loss to Charleston Southern, he scored a career-high 15 points on 3 of 4 shooting from the 3-point line in 22 minutes on the floor. Interestingly, Miami went 0-5 when he scored in double figures this season.

Miami ultimately finished its 2024-25 season 7-24 overall, including a 3-17 record against ACC competition. Their record in ACC play earned them last place in the conference standings, and were one of three teams to miss out on the ACC Tournament, along with NC State and Boston College.

According to Swartz’s On3 recruiting profile, the NC native held offers from Clemson, Tennessee, South Carolina and Georgia, among others, during his high school recruitiment. He ultimately chose to play his freshman season at Miami.

The college basketball transfer portal is now scheduled for 30 days during the spring of the 2024-25 academic year. The portal will open after the second round of the NCAA Tournament and conclude before the end of April. Moreover, athletes would still be given a 30-day window to transfer after a head coach’s departure.
