After taking an early 3-0 lead, the Miami Hurricanes gave up nine runs in the bottom of the third inning to Texas in the midst of their regional matchup with the Longhorns. After the offensive onslaught, Miami head coach Gino DiMare spoke to media during the game and gave the game plan moving forward for the Hurricanes.

“We’ve got a hold them obviously, we can’t give up any big runs or big innings like we just did,” DiMare said. “We’ve got to hold them, pitchers got to hold them, and we got to battle back. There’s no clock in this game, so it’s a lot of game to be played, we gotta give good at bats.”

A three-run homer from Dominic Pitelli gave the Hurricanes their 3-0 lead heading into the third inning, but the Hurricanes couldn’t have seen what was coming in the bottom of the third.

From singles, to doubles, and even a grand slam, everything was working for the Longhorn’s offense in the third inning that had 13 at bats and nine runs, as DiMare shared his message to the team for the remainder of the game.

“One pitch at a time, gotta give good at bats. The pitcher that’s throwing right now, got a sinking fastball, we gotta get inside the ball a little bit. The last guy, (Jacoby) Long, hit the ball good. Saw the ball up, gotta see his ball up because he does have a sinking fastball,” DiMare said.

The Hurricanes will definitely need a lot of help to keep their postseason hopes alive, as it’s now a win-or-go-home scenario for Miami in the Coral Gables Regional Final.

Jalin Flores’ grand-slam extends Texas’ lead to 9-3 over Miami

Texas had already scored five unanswered to take the lead back from Miami in the Coral Gables Regional. Then, in a grand-slam fashion, Jalin Flores only added on to the avalanche from the Longhorns.

Flores made sure to let the Hurricanes know about it too as he stuck his tongue out in celebration while rounding the bases inside Mark Light Field.

Jack O’Dowd, Jared Thomas, Mitchell Daly, Dylan Campbell, and Peyton Powell had all already scored in various ways earlier in the inning. Then, after Eric Kennedy, Porter Brown, and Garret Guillemette got on base to keep things going, Flores did the honors by breaking things open with his grand-slam.

This was the fourth home run of Flores’ freshman season. The three runs he helped to score also brought the RBI total for his season up to 22.

Offense has been the name of the game so far for the second matchup between these two teams in this region. Thankfully for Texas, though, they found their groove in large part due to the work from Flores.
