Miami head coach Jim Larranaga accomplishes historic feat

The Miami Hurricanes (21-9, 13-6 ACC) head basketball coach Jim Larranaga got his 221st win tonight after the Hurricanes defeated Boston College (11-18, 6-13 ACC) on Wednesday night, 81-70. With the win, he became the winningest head coach in program history.

The ‘Canes jumped out to a 40-25 lead after the first half and cruised for the rest of the contest. Miami guard Isaiah Wong was unguardable for most of the night, dropping 27 points for the ‘Canes. He torched the nets, connecting on 9-of-16 shots from the field and he was 5-of-9 from three-point range. Not only did he pour in a season-high in points, but he also corralled seven rebounds. He scored 17 of his points in the first half in helping the ‘Canes jump out to their early lead.
The Hurricanes have officially clinched a double-bye in the 2022 ACC Tournament, which means they are guaranteed to be either a three seed or four seed regardless of the outcome of their final game on Saturday.

Miami also had nine steals in the game. They scored 17 points off Eagles turnovers. Boston College didn’t make it easy on themselves in the first half, turning it over five times in the first seven minutes. Miami’s star guard Charlie Moore also accomplished some history of his own tonight. After the first half, he had 88 assists in ACC play, breaking the school record. He dumped in eight points and five assists in the winning effort. The Hurricanes shot 47.6 percent from deep and simply couldn’t miss for much of the evening, especially when they needed a bucket to maintain a double-digit lead.
Makai Ashton-Langford led the Eagles with 21 points in the losing effort. Boston College finishes up their regular season on Saturday against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Miami will finish out their regular season against the Syracuse Orange on March 5.
