WATCH: Miami head coach Jim Larranaga dances in locker room following 'Canes upset victory over Houston
The Miami Hurricanes were one of the most talented teams in college basketball for much of the season. On Friday night in the Sweet 16 against the top-seeded Houston Cougars, the Hurricanes showcased to the basketball world just how deep and talented they truly are. The ‘Canes handled a very talented Houston team by double-digits, prevailing 89-75.
With the win, Miami punched their tickets to the Elite Eight for the second straight season under head coach Jim Larranaga. Following the win, Larranaga decided to celebrate by dancing in the locker room with his players.
Check it out here as he breaks it down.
Leading Miami to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances is nothing short of incredible and while Larranaga’s run to the Final Four with George Mason was remarkable, what he’s done with the Hurricanes’ program has been equally impressive. He joined John Chaney and Tom Izzo as the only head coaches to make three appearances in the Elite Eight as a No. 5 seed or lower.
To be fair, this year’s version of the Hurricanes were no ordinary No. 5 seed. They were the Co-ACC Champions for the regular season and boast one of the deepest and most talented rosters in America.
The ‘Canes had five players score in double figures on Friday night against Houston, with two of them pouring in over 20 points (Nijel Pack and Isaiah Wong). Pack erupted for one of his best performances of the season (26 points) at the very best time, connecting on seven of ten shots from beyond-the-arc. The Hurricanes were the only team to score more than 80 points against the Cougars all season long. Houston only allowed 56.6 points per game this year.

Jordan Miller is one of the most underrated players in the country who doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Everywhere you look on their roster, it’s loaded. They’ve got four players that have averaged 13 points or more per game this year: Jordan Miller, Norchad Omier, Nijel Pack, and Isaiah Wong (this year’s ACC POY).
Larranaga took George Mason to their only trip to the Final Four in program history in 2006 and now he’s one win away from taking the Hurricanes to their first Final Four in school history. In the early stages of his college basketball coaching career, Larranaga was an assistant under Terry Holland, first with Davidson, then with the Virginia Cavaliers from 1979-1986.
Miami will face the No. 2 seed, the Texas Longhorns, in the Elite Eight. The game will be played on Sunday, March 26th. That one will be played at 4:55 PM EST and the game will be nationally televised on CBS.
