Jim Larranaga gives hilarious response to crazy Nijel Pack shot, breaks down Miami start
During the first half of their Elite Eight matchup with Texas, Miami head coach Jim Larranaga spoke on the start of his Hurricanes. But before addressing the play of the team, he couldn’t help but speak on the circus shot that guard Nijel Pack made, which unfortunately for the Hurricanes, was called back.
“I liked the last shot expect it went over the backboard so they erased it,” Larranaga said.
Pack still ended the first half with seven points and an assist, making 50% of his shots from the field. As Larranaga broke down not only the performance of his team, but both teams as a whole to start the game.
“You know I think these are two terrific teams, very fast teams, and the game is going to be very aggressive on both ends,” Larranaga said. “So we’ve scored, they’ve scored, at the rim, from three, just gotta keep playing well.”
The first half was a hard-fought battle, resulting in Texas heading to the locker room with a 45-37 lead over the Hurricanes. The Longhorns ended the first half strong, going on a 9-4 run to end the half, but the biggest difference has been their bench, which outscored Miami’s 21-1 in the first half. Miami also only made two three-pointers in the first half compared to seven by Texas.

ACC Player of the Year Isiah Wong was held to just two points on two shot attempts, leading to Jordan Miller taking over the scoring reigns in the first half for Miami. Miller led the team with 13 points on an impressive 100% shooting from the field, making all six of his six shot attempts. The Hurricanes have also been effective around the rim, outscoring Texas 20 to 10 after the first period.
Miami still has some work to do, as they look to erase their eight-point deficit and appear back in the Final Four for the first time in school history.
WATCH: Miami guard Nijel Pack hits incredible circus shot, waived off by officials
The first half of Sunday’s matchup with Texas and Miami saw Nijel Pack hit one of the best shots of the tournament — that didn’t count. Pack was forced towards the sideline as he drove to the basket, and threw up an incredibly difficult shot attempt that sailed well over the backboard and into the hoop perfectly.
Unfortunately, the shot went over the backboard from behind, disallowing the score and giving the ball back to Texas.
