Greg McElroy gives major vote of confidence to Tyler Van Dyke in 2022
ESPN analyst Greg McElroy recently broke down the top quarterbacks heading into this college football season. During his assessment, he took a deep look into the signal callers of the ACC and had some high praise for the Miami Hurricanes Tyler Van Dyke. McElroy gives a major vote of confidence to Van Dyke and even throws in a forecast on the Hurricanes’ 2022 season.
“Let’s go next to Tyler Van Dyke at Miami; what a surprise. Last year we were talking about D’eriq King at this point of the season,” started McElroy. “King gets a little banged up against Michigan State and has a couple of ups and downs — well in comes Tyler Van Dyke. Nobody knew anything about this guy, and he ended up finishing with nearly 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns against just six interceptions. Very impressive to see how he played down the stretch. He started the final nine games, and they finished six and three, and honestly, a big reason why is because of him.”
Van Dyke came into last season as virtually an unknown on the college football field. But that all changed very quickly, and his play helped propel Miami into the Sun Bowl. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes did not get a chance to play in the bowl after a COVID outbreak sidelined the team. Now in Mario Cristobal’s first year leading the program, Van Dyke has an opportunity to usher in a new era of greatness at Miami. An age McElroy sees starting much sooner rather than later.

“The reason why we think that they can win right now is because of Tyler Van Dyke. He’s accurate. He actually has sneaky mobilities, really solid athlete; you wouldn’t think that when you first take a glance at him. He’s a big reason why a lot of people are looking at Miami out of the Coastal in the ACC as a dark horse; not just to win that division but to win the league overall.”
The Hurricanes are a team to watch out for in 2022. If the rest of the ACC sleeps on Miami because it is Cristobal’s first year, then they could wake up to a new Hurricanes dynasty starting this year by Van Dyke.
