Miami Hurricanes offensive lineman Issiah Walker Jr. entered the transfer portal on Monday, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

The one-time Florida Gators signee and Miami native never played for the Canes during his time in Coral Gables. He was one of several players who did not participate in spring practices.

The NCAA’s deadline to enter the portal and maintain eligibility for the fall came and went on May 1. Based on the guidelines, Walker won’t be eligible for the fall semester. The 6-foot-5, 309-pound lineman will likely have to sit out the year at his school of choice.

Issiah Walker, a former four-star prospect, originally signed with Florida out of Norland High School. He was the No. 152 player in the nation in the 2020 class, according to the On3 Consensus. He transferred to Miami in May of 2020 but did not see the field.

Issiah Walker hits transfer portal for second time

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal goes through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship is no longer valid. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school does not have to reoffer a scholarship.
