According to a report from Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, former Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King is seeing his stock rise with multiple teams prior to the 2022 NFL draft. King has already talked with a few teams and a couple more meetings are on the way.

“University of Miami quarterback D’Eriq King is drawing increased interest from NFL teams with an emphasis on his quarterback skills,” Wilson said. “The Manvel graduate worked out privately for New England Patriots assistant coach Joe Judge, is scheduled for the Texans’ local prospect day on April 8, had a Zoom meeting with the Baltimore Ravens, and talked extensively with the Denver Broncos following the Miami Pro Day workout along with other NFL teams, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.”

Of the four teams Wilson mentioned in his report, three of them would have somebody they think to be their franchise quarterback going forward. The one without a long-term solution is his hometown Houston Texans. Coming out of Manvel High School as a four-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus, King grew up just around 20 miles from NRG Stadium.

He even began his college career in the city of Houston, playing for the Houston Cougars for four seasons. Despite only starting in 22 games, King was able to put up absurd stats, putting up 6,346 yards of offense and 78 total touchdowns with the Cougars. Moving over to Miami, he finished with 3,453 passing yards, 634 rushing yards, and 30 total touchdowns.

Baltimore and Denver both have quarterbacks, Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson, who have been considered dual threats at one point in their careers. Jackson is still one of the best runners at the quarterback position in the league and bringing in a similar style backup has always been a strategy of NFL teams.

However, New England definitely does not have a dual-threat guy as the face of the franchise. Drafting quarterback Mac Jones in the first round last year, he is more of a pocket passer. Nonetheless, the Patriots are interested enough to hold a private workout with the newly hired assistant coach, Joe Judge.

King only played in three games last season for Miami, suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Before that, he had recovered from a torn ACL suffered in the Hurricanes bowl game after the 2020 season. The quarterback has spent a majority of the past year injured but is working toward being an option for NFL teams going forward.
