LOOK: Isaiah Wong announces return to Miami Hurricanes
Miami was one of the surprises of the NCAA Tournament, making a run to the Elite Eight. Shooting guard Isaiah Wong led the Hurricanes during the month of March, averaging 16.3 points per game during the tournament. After mulling over his future, Wong has finally made the decision to return to Coral Gables.
Wong announced he would be back for head coach Jim Larranaga via Twitter on Wednesday. In a tweet with a graphic labeled “I’m back”, Wong himself is excited to “run it back” as Miami looks for similar results in the 2022-2023 season.
Most times, a fourth-place finish in the ACC would see a team seeded high in the NCAA Tournament but Miami was on the bubble down the stretch. Wong was the team’s second-leading scorer throughout the season, going for 15.3 points per night and adding 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 rebounds.
It’s down the stretch where Wong became the leader for the Hurricanes. Against USC, the guard went for 22 points and followed it up by dropping 21 on Auburn. His performances pushed Miami into the second weekend for the first time since 2016 and eventually, the program’s first-ever Elite Eight.

Alabama LB announces plan to transfer
Wong flirted with a couple of options before ultimately deciding to return. First, he thought about entering the NCAA transfer portal and cashing in on his great postseason. He gave an ultimatum, saying he wanted a top-level NIL deal from Miami, otherwise he would leave.
After backtracking from those comments, Wong also considered entering the 2022 NBA Draft. With the deadline to withdraw being on Wednesday, Miami will now get back someone who will be considered a top guard in the ACC.
Wong will be entering his fourth season with the program and looking for even more success than last season. The Hurricanes will be relying on him to bring his NCAA Tournament form into the 2022-2023 regular season.
