A veteran from Mario Cristobal‘s Miami Hurricanes unit is opting to leave the program. On Monday, On3 learned that senior offensive tackle Chris Washington is looking for a new home after entering the NCAA transfer portal. Washington will enter the portal as a graduate transfer.

The six-foot-seven offensive lineman has been a Hurricane for the entirety of his collegiate career after committing to the program under then-head coach Manny Diaz in the summer of 2019. Washington played his high school football at Overton High School in Nashville, TN, where he was a three-star recruit. He had a recruiting rating of 84.1 as a member of the 2020 recruiting cycle. Washington was the No. 1018 overall recruit, ranked 106 at the offensive tackle position, and was the 30th best player to come out of the state of Tennessee, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

With Miami, Washington’s opportunities to play within the offensive line have been sparingly. As a true freshman, he saw action in two games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. In 2021, he played in just one game and was primarily a member of the Hurricanes practice squad. Last season, Washington played in four games for Miami, including their season opener win against Bethune-Cookman.

Along with Washington, offensive lineman Jonathan Denis also entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday. He started his career at Oregon before migrating to South Beach to become a Hurricane shortly after Christobal accepted Miami’s head coaching position.

Denis was recovering from injury last season and saw action in just one game against Temple. He made two starts out of five games played in 2022 for the Hurricanes.

While at Oregon, Denis spent two seasons under Mario Cristobal before following him to Miami. He didn’t see any action in 2020 and redshirted during the 2021 campaign.
