Miami offers 4-star running backs Daylan Smothers, Kalib Hicks
Miami extended offers to a pair of four-star running backs — Denton (Texas) Ryan’s Kalib Hicks and Charlotte (N.C.) Zebulon B Vance’s Daylan Smothers — among a flurry of activity on Wednesday.
Hicks is the No. 344 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 25 running back and the No. 60 junior prospect in the Lone Star State.
On3’s own rankings are much higher on Hicks, listing him as the country’s No. 147 prospect, No. 8 running back and No. 23 Texas prospect.
In addition to the Hurricanes, Baylor, Wisconsin, Missouri, TCU, and Ole Miss are among the dozen-plus schools that have offered Hicks. He took in junior days at Texas and TCU, but remains open in his recruitment to this point.
“I’m looking for a second home,” Hicks told the OMSpirit last month. “Also looking to win and get pushed to my potential so I can get to the highest level (the NFL) and be successful. Of course, an education and an opportunity to play pro long-term.
Daylan Smothers adds another to long list of offers
The Hurricanes’ other running back offer, Daylan Smothers, is one of the most prized backs in the Southeast with more than 30 offers to his name. Among them are Florida State, Tennessee, South Carolina, N.C. State and Michigan.

Smothers is the No. 270 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is the 20th best running back recruit and the No. 8 player in North Carolina in the On3 Consensus.
On3 ranks Daylan Smothers higher than others in the industry. On3 lists Smothers as the No. 12 running back and the fifth-best player in North Carolina.
He has already taken a dozen unofficial visits, with two each to Florida State, Tennessee, South Carolina and N.C. State. He has another visit to Florida State set for March, and plans to see more schools once the recruiting dead period ends.
The Hurricanes will have ground to make up with both backs, but as of now, neither has cut down their list or officially eliminated any teams from contention.
