The Miami Hurricanes’ basketball team had one of their best seasons in school history last year, making the only trip to the Final Four in ‘Canes program history. The Hurricanes’ roster once again has a loaded squad coming back this year. Miami released their non-conference basketball schedule for the 2023-2024 season on Thursday evening.

One of the more high-profile games on Miami’s non-conference slate will be their game against the Kentucky Wildcats on Nov. 28th. Another potentially intriguing matchup could be against the Kansas State Wildcats. The Wildcats made a magical run to the Elite Eight last year, behind the remarkable play of Markquis Nowell, who has since moved onto the NBA.

Miami has a stacked roster returning yet again

The Hurricanes went out and landed one of the most coveted prospects in the transfer portal this offseason. Not only did they land a big prospect, but they snatched him from their rival, the Florida State Seminoles. Matthew Cleveland is a man that has proven time and time again to have freon coursing through his veins during the closing seconds of games. The Hurricanes would know. After all, Cleveland guided the Seminoles back from a 25-point deficit to stun No. 13 Miami last year. He drained a contested three-pointer at the buzzer to lift FSU to their record-setting win over the ‘Canes.

Cleveland is just one of the reasons On3’s Jamie Shaw picked Miami as one of his ten teams who can win a national championship in 2023-2024. The ‘Canes made it to the Elite Eight in 2022 and then in 2023, followed it up with their first Final Four in program history. Miami also returns Norchad Omier and Nijel Pack, two of the more talented players in the ACC.

Omier is one of the best rebounders in America and he led the ACC in total rebounds. Pack has shot 41.6 percent from three-point range for his career and has already pumped in 1,287 career points in three seasons.

Miami also returns Wooga Poplar, a player that many, including On3’s Jamie Shaw, have pegged as a breakout star for next season. He’s ultra-athletic and one glimpse at him on tape and it’s easy to see why. He connected on 37.5 percent of his threes last year. Poplar stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the Hurricanes’ 88-81 win over the Texas Longhorns in the Elite Eight.

The Hurricanes will have plenty of expectations and hype on their shoulders entering 2023-2024, but the talent and coaching is there to make yet another impressive run in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
