Miami OT commit Francis Mauigoa now a Five-Star Plus+ prospect
Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa can now add his name to an elite list in the 2023 recruiting cycle. After updates around the recruiting industry, the Miami commit is now considered a Five-Star Plus+ prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings.
Each recruiting cycle, there is a small group of prospects who are rated as five-star recruits by all four major recruiting services. Those players earn Five-Star Plus+ status, signaling their bona fides across the industry.
In the 2023 cycle, Mauigoa becomes the fifth prospect to earn such honors, joining New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman quarterback and Texas commit Arch Manning, Lakeland (Fla.) cornerback Cormani McClain. Los Alamitos (Calif.) quarterback and USC commit Malachi Nelson, and Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman receiver and USC commit Zachariah Branch.
The 6-foot-5, 327-pounder is the jewel of Miami’s recruiting class, which ranks No. 8 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. He chose the Hurricanes last month over finalists USC, Oregon, Alabama, and Tennessee, continuing a string of blue-chip commitments for Mario Cristobal and Co. this summer.

Francis Mauigoa Scouting Summary
“Wide-bodied, nimble mover who is excelling in his first season as a full-time offensive lineman. Works at right tackle for IMG, but likely projects on the interior due to his arm length and build. Played very well against a national schedule and some top pass rushers as a junior. Uses his natural strength to create a big push in the run game. Plays with a wide base and has considerable pop in his hands. Has mauling qualities as a drive blocker and is athletic enough to get to the second level with ease. Though he doesn’t project as an offensive tackle long-term, showed some very encouraging skills in pass protection.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
Reminds Us Of: Penei Sewell. Francis Mauigoa’s nimble athleticism and physical play style reminds us of Penei Sewell. Both are strong functional movers despite their weights at over 320 pounds. They excel as run blockers while also having the feet and coordination to succeed in pass protection as offensive tackles. Mauigoa tests as a better athlete than Sewell at the same stage.
