Miami notched another in-state win on the recruiting trail Sunday by landing a commitment from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard four-star running back Christopher Johnson. His decision elevated the Hurricanes’ 2023 recruiting class to No. 7 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.

Miami’s class, which now ranks No. 1 in the ACC, climbed three spots from No. 10. It contains 23 pledges and is composed of two five-stars, 10 four-stars and 11 three-stars.

Johnson is the No. 286 overall prospect and No. 20 running back in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 54 player in Florida.

On3 rates Johnson higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, he is the No. 247 overall prospect, No. 15 running back and No. 50 player in Florida.

It has been a good fall for Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff. Since Oct. 27, Miami has landed commitments from Johnson, Lakeland (Fla.) Five-Star Plus+ cornerback Cormani McClain, Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic four-star EDGE Collins Acheampong, Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes three-star defensive lineman Joshua Horton and Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek three-star linebacker Marcellius Pulliam.

The Hurricanes flipped Acheampong and Horton from Michigan and North Carolina, respectively. However, they lost a pledge from Pittsburg (Calif.) four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada, who flipped to Florida on Nov. 10.

Still, Miami has one of the nation’s best recruiting classes. Over the summer, the Hurricanes landed commitments from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy Five-Star Plus+ offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, Tacoma (Wash.) IMG Academy four-star EDGE Jayden Wayne and Portland (Ore.) IMG Academy four-star tight end Riley Williams. They are all ranked in the top-100 of the On3 Consensus.

Other recruits to choose the Hurricanes then were Fayetteville (Ga.) Whitewater four-star linebacker Raul Aguirre, Miami Edison four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph and Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie four-star cornerback Robert Stafford. Meanwhile, Orlando (Fla.) Jones four-star linebacker Malik Bryant also pledged to Miami on July 27.
