Miami TE Riley Williams plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Miami tight end Riley Williams plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The 6-foot-6, 243-pound Wiliams was a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class out of IMG Academy by way of Portland, Oregon.
Williams was the No. 4 overall tight end in the 2023 class, the No. 111 overall recruit in the class, and the No. 27 player in Florida, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Williams appeared in 21 games over his two-year career in Coral Gables, compiling 15 receptions for 187 yards and one touchdown in 2023.
Williams will be the eighth member of Miami‘s 2024 team to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal since the end of the regular season, joining running backs Christopher Johnson Jr., who committed to SMU, and Ajay Allen Jr., receivers Isaiah Horton and Robby Washington, cornerbacks Myles Mooyoung and Robert Stafford, offensive lineman Antonio Tripp, and quarterback Reese Poffenbarger, who committed to North Texas.
Prior to landing at IMG, Williams was a big-play threat as a junior at Central Catholic (Ore.) High School, where he had 36 catches for 889 yards and 14 touchdowns. Williams chose Miami over offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, FSU, LSU, Michigan and Texas.

Williams had dreams of becoming the Hurricanes’ top tight end option in his second season, according to CaneSport’s Matt Shodell, but that never quite developed. After failing to record a catch in the season opener vs. Florida, Williams had at least one reception in five straight games but struggled in the second half of the season with just one reception for 29 yards over the final six games.
“This is the second go round for me now, it’s just about getting better all around in my game,” Williams told CaneSports. “Just working on every area in terms of blocking, pass catching and knowing the whole offense.”
