Last week, Mike Leach and Mississippi State had a real shot at flipping Khamauri Rogers and keeping the four-star cornerback home.

But new Miami head coach Mario Cristobal got the four-star on campus over the weekend and that ended all of Mississippi State’s hopes.

“That visit really did it,” Rogers told On3. “Getting to Miami, getting one-on-one time with coach Cristobal, and knowing that my position coaches were staying was all I needed.

“I already knew about the school, I had been on campus before, and all that was great, so it was about the time with Cristobal and knowing who my coaches would be.”

The new leader in Coral Gables made a strong impression on the star out of Lexington (Miss.) Holmes County that ranks No. 152 in the On3 Consensus.

“Coach Cristobal is very genuine. He was easy to talk to and I really liked him as a person. I know he is a great coach, so getting to know him as a person was great.

“I liked his energy, how he was ready to meet me, and it was a great match.”

Now that two have met and Rogers knows who will be playing for along the plan Cristobal has, there is only one goal.

“He wants to get Miami back to what it used to be and win championships,” Rogers said. “That is all we are thinking about now.

“I want to be a part of bringing Miami back.”
