Pete Thamel: Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke is a 'game-time decision' vs. Florida State
The Miami Hurricanes may or may not have starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke available for today’s home game against Florida State, says Pete Thamel. He originally went out a few weeks ago against Duke with a shoulder injury and is eyeing a possible return vs. FSU.
Saturday morning, ESPN’s Pete Thamel offered the latest update on Van Dyke, saying that he is questionable to play today and will be a game-time decision later tonight. His report, which he tweeted, simply read: “Miami’s Tyler Van Dyke is a game-time decision for the Hurricanes.”
If he does not go for the second straight week after missing last weekend’s thriller vs. Virginia, it’ll be sophomore backup QB Jake Garcia replacing him. Garcia completed just 15 of 31 passes for 125 yards in that UVA victory.
Cristobal shares Miami’s plan at QB for Florida State
During Monday’s press conference, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal shared the Hurricanes plan at quarterback. And if you’re a fan of freshman quarterback Jacurri Brown, plan on seeing more of him against the Seminoles.

“Improving. He’s looking better and better every single day,” said Cristobal. “We entered this week preparing him to play. We’re preparing Jake to play and preparing Jacurri to play. I know for sure Jacurri is going to play Saturday. he gives us some things on offense, and he keeps getting better and better. It’s a shame that the one ball he threw was not a good one because I think you’re going to see how talented he is and how well he can build the ball. But TVD continues to improve. We’re very optimistic. He looked great yesterday and great today. So, we will keep pushing that envelope and see where we’re at come Friday and Saturday.”
If the Hurricanes can get Van Dyke back in time for the game at or close to 100 percent, it can be just what Miami needs to take down their in-state, in-conference rival.
