Report: Miami linebacker arrested on serious charges
Miami Hurricanes linebacker Deshawn Troutman was arrested shortly after a spring practice session, according to Fox Sports’ Andy Slater. The sophomore is accused of punching his girlfriend “all over her body” in the March incident.
A senior law enforcement official also told Slater that the punches included shots to the head of the woman. At this time, no additional details about Troutman’s legal status are known.
The school said he has been immediately suspended for an indefinite period from all team activities.
“We are aware that University of Miami football student-athlete Deshawn Troutman was arrested by the Miami-Dade Police Department on March 22,” the University of Miami said in a statement to Slater.

Deshawn Troutman appeared in eight games for Miami in his freshman season, primarily working on special teams and as a member of the practice squad. The former three-star recruit came to Miami as the No. 646 ranked player in the 2021 class. An Orlando native, he chose UM over offers from Florida State, Louisville and others.
Miami under new leadership
Following the 2021 season, Miami decided to make drastic changes in the athletic department. Not only did they choose to fire football coach Manny Diaz in order to bring in hometown hero Mario Cristobal, they also named a new athletic director to lead the program.
Much of the message since the arrival of the new football staff has centered around building local roots, which makes sense given the history of many members of the coaching staff in South Florida.
In addition to multiple hires, Cristobal has made sure to bring in special guests throughout spring practice to stress the importance of the Miami Hurricanes. From former players to legendary coaches and popular culture icons, a long list of guest have made their way to the practice field.
