Report: Miami involved with transfer quarterbacks KJ Jefferson, Malachi Nelson
The Miami Hurricanes are getting active in the transfer quarterback market. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, they are now recruiting two new big-name QBs.
Thamel reported Monday morning ahead of the CFP semifinal games that Malachi Nelson from USC and KJ Jefferson from Arkansas are two names to monitor as Miami expands its pursuit of a transfer under center.
Here was that report, which Thamel tweeted:
“Source: Miami has engaged with both USC transfer Malachi Nelson and Arkansas transfer KJ Jefferson as they begin to pursue other quarterbacks in the the portal and keep all options open.”
Jefferson is the more-well-known name between the two and would offer a one-year stop-gap for Miami as a super senior with three full years of starting experience in the SEC under his belt. In those seasons, Jefferson threw for 2,600 yards in back-to-back seasons before topping out at just 2,100 this season, the team’s worst with him.
On the other hand, Malachi Nelson is more of a long-term play since he was a true freshman in 2023. Although he was an elite recruit, five-stars according to the On3 Industry Rankings and No. 11 overall in his cycle. Either one of these guys would be a massive get for The U.
