2022 was supposed to be a breakout season for Tyler Van Dyke and the Miami Hurricanes under new head coach Mario Cristobal. That didn’t happen, though, with Miami going just 5-7 while Van Dyke suffered a shoulder injury against Florida State that cost him several games.

Now, as the Hurricanes go into spring practice, Van Dyke has addressed his health.

“It’s good to get back out there,” Tyler Van Dyke said during his media availability. “Healthy now. So, feeling good.”

This prompted a reporter to as Van Dyke if he was 100% right now. He’s not, but he is a lot better than he had been.

“A game tomorrow, I’d play. I’d probably say I’m like 90, 95% right now.”

Even when he was healthy in 2022, Tyler Van Dyke struggled. He played in nine games and threw for 1,844 yards with only 10 touchdowns to five interceptions. On top of that, Miami moved on from offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. So, this spring is incredibly important for Van Dyke and the Miami offense to both learn a new offense while getting completely healthy.

Mario Cristobal gave an update on Zion Nelson

Another player who struggled with injuries in 2022 was star offensive lineman Zion Nelson. Ahead of spring practice, Mario Cristobal shared an update on Nelson’s health.

“He’s doing well, he’s on the mend,” Cristobal said.

“Right now doctors prefer that he continues to heal up until we get to the point where we can really, really go. We are going to be patient with him. He feels good about it and the doctors feel good about it, so we’ll stay the course.”
