Mario Cristobal shares update on Tyler Van Dyke's status going forward
Miami survived a quadruple-overtime game against Virginia on Saturday, winning 14-12 despite failing to score a touchdown in the contest. And there might be good news on the horizon for the Hurricanes, with coach Mario Cristobal providing a Tyler Van Dyke injury update after the game.
Van Dyke did not play after leaving last weekend’s contest against Duke with an injury.
“He’s getting better and better,” Cristobal said. “I hate to comment on that and then all the sudden have to give you a different story in a couple days. I know that, like all the other guys, that character, that DNA, he’s doing everything possible to get back as soon as he can, but he is working and he is getting closer and closer.
“So we’ll see where he’s at as the week goes on.”
With Tyler Van Dyke’s injury sidelining him Saturday against the Cavaliers, the Hurricanes turned to backup Jake Garcia.

Garcia finished just 15-of-29 passing for 125 yards. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception. Freshman quarterback Jacurri Brown also threw passes in the contest but did not complete any of his passing attempts.
Van Dyke entered the season as the starter for Miami and despite some ups and downs has clearly been the team’s best option.
The sophomore is 152-of-237 passing for 1,737 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has also thrown four interceptions.
