Tyler Van Dyke: More explosive plays will help open up Miami offense
Miami has seen its offense struggle during its past two games. Against Texas A&M and Middle Tennessee, Miami is averaging just 20 points per game. Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was actually benched for backup Jake Garcia.
Tyler Van Dyke knows that the offense needs to improve if Miami is going to get back on track going forward. To do that, he thinks that it’s important Miami creates more explosive plays to open up the offense.
“We’re gonna play more tempo,” Tyler Van Dyke said. “I mean, we gotta hit more deep plays and more explosive plays for that [improved production] to happen.”

“Once you get that 20-yard gain, yeah, we’ll go faster just because, I guess, the defense, you know, discombobulated. We’re not moving the ball well, you know, we’re not. There’s no way we can go tempo, you know? We gotta figure out ways to, you know, beat them with the run and all that type of stuff. We just gotta get more explosive plays to be able to do tempo. So, that’s what we’re trying to work on.”
Tyler Van Dyke was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2020. He and Miami will have their shot to turn things around against North Carolina, who is allowing 36 points per game against FBS opponents.

Tyler Van Dyke on fans booing him
During the loss to Middle Tennessee, Tyler Van Dyke was met with booing by the home crowd before he was benched. However, Van Dyke wasn’t upset, instead describing this as fans showing their passion.
“Obviously, it was a rough day for me and the offense. You know, you just got to move on from it, honestly. So, you’ve got to learn from the experience and just come back here and work even harder and get better from it. And that’s what we did last week. We had a really good week last week as an offense and we’re just trying to build on that and stack these days and do it every single day and that includes Saturdays, and that’s where it matters the most,” Tyler Van Dyke said.
“But, yeah, obviously it’s a part of the game. You know, all that stuff. I mean, the fans are very passionate about Miami Hurricane’s football. I mean, you got to get the job done here. You know they’re very passionate. So, you know, it was rough, but that’s just how it goes and that’s what I signed up for.”
