Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was among the players attending the Manning Passing Academy at Nicholls State. There, he was able to learn and work on a ton of the little details that come with playing quarterback at the college level.

As Van Dyke explained, it’s these little details that he wants to take away the most, whether it be from the Manning brothers or another college athlete.

“Just learning the most I can,” Van Dyke said. “Just soaking everything up, taking every little detail in as possible, whether it’s from my peers or the Manning brothers.”

In 2022, Van Dyke played in nine games while being hampered by injuries throughout the season. He completed 63.2% of passes on the season for 1,835 yards. He also had 10 touchdowns to five interceptions. That was a major step back from his 2021 season and is something that Miami needs to correct if it wants to bounce back in 2023.

Regardless of what Van Dyke takes from his time at the Manning Passing Academy, it was a good experience for the signal caller.

“It’s a pretty cool experience, you know, (to) work with the Manning brothers and meet all the other great college quarterbacks around the country,” Van Dyke said. “Work with them, learn from them. And then, also, work with all these young kids and just help them to get better.”

Tyler Van Dyke must prove himself in 2023

Tyler Van Dyke came into the 2022 season with huge expectations that he failed to live up to. In 2023, he’ll get a shot to live up to those expectations again. However, as On3’s JD PicKell explained, this won’t be easy to do.

“I saw what Tyler Van Dyke did in ’21, I saw what happened in ’22. And I said I don’t believe Tyler Van Dyke is the problem. Mario Cristobal came on this very show and if we’re trying to translate the coach speak? He kind of said the same thing. He said last year’s system wasn’t a fit. Nobody’s fault but it wasn’t a fit,” PicKell said.

Tyler Van Dyke’s still there and a lot of things around him have changed. In fact, just about everything around him has changed. New pieces on the offensive line, new offensive coordinator in Shannon Dawson. The point I’m trying to make is with Tyler Van Dyke? When everything else around you changes with the assumption that you’re not the problem? If we’re going to miss a bowl game again? Or maybe we don’t achieve the level of success we want to for a second year in a row? At what point do we say we changed everything else around you? Maybe it is on Tyler Van Dyke, maybe Tyler Van Dyke actually is the issue.”
