UAB tight end transfer Jack Nickel commits to Miami
Former UAB tight end Jack Nickel has committed to Miami, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reports. This is the second time Nickel has gone through the NCAA transfer portal process, beginning his career at Michigan State. He might be hoping this is his last, heading to Coral Gables with two years of eligibility remaining.
Nickel played in 12 games this past season for UAB but did not put too much on the stat sheet. Just one catch for six yards, coming on Oct. 12 against Army. Miami might be taking Nickel in hopes of him carving out a bigger role.

Back at Michigan State, two seasons were spent with the Spartans. One was a redshirt year, not making his way onto the field. Nickel then worked in 10 games in 2023, most only on special teams. The official Michigan State roster bio says Nickel played 90 special teams snaps and offensively, 13.
Per the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings, Nickel is the No. 1,940 overall player to enter this cycle. Looking at just tight ends, he comes in at No. 108. Head coach Mario Cristobal is hoping to find some nice value out of Nickel at a position of need.

After all, the Hurricanes are all but likely losing Elijah Arroyo to the 2025 NFL Draft.
Nickel played high school football at Alpharetta (GA) Milton, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 633 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Miami lands big-time cornerback out of transfer portal
Washington State cornerback transfer Ethan O’Connor has committed to Miami, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. O’Connor is one of the highest-rated players to enter the NCAA transfer portal this offseason, being a huge get for Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes.
Multiple power programs were involved in O’Connor’s portal recruitment, mainly the Georgia Bulldogs. Colorado, Oklahoma, and UCLA were also fighting for the defensive back’s services. But a visit to Coral Gables was enough for Miami to get the job done.
