Wesley Bissainthe injury update: Mario Cristobal gives firm status of Miami LB
In the fourth quarter of Miami‘s 36-14 win over Florida State on Saturday, Hurricanes linebacker Wesley Bissainthe left the game after a brutal collision with Seminoles running back Roydell Williams. Despite initial concerns, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal confirmed Bissainthe is “full-go” and healthy on Monday.
Before leaving the game on Saturday, Bissainthe tallied six tackles. He boasts 36 tackles this season, the second-most on the team. He also recorded an interception in Week 2 against Ball State.
Wesley Bissainthe grew up in Miami and has been a leader for the Hurricanes this season. Early in the 2024 campaign, Bissainthe explained his mindset entering this season.
“I just want to win now,” the junior linebacker said. “I focus on the field, don’t care about anything else. I want to lead this team to where I know we want to be and where I know we could be. I’m not focused on The U back. I’m keeping the main thing the main thing.
“The people, the coaches want you to be great, put you in position to be great. You want a coach to be rooting for you, see you do well. Every coach here does that for us, really cares about us. They want us to work and push us every day.”
Miami’s work has paid off thus far. The Hurricanes are 8-0 this season, most recently defeating Florida State in convincing fashion. In the win, Miami running back Damien Martinez put on a show, racking up 148 yards and two touchdowns on just 15 carries.

While head coach Mario Cristobal is proud of his team for their performance against the Seminoles, he knows they can’t rest on their laurels.
“It’s a great example of working your butt off and keeping your head down and not worrying about all that crap that comes with rebuilds,” Cristobal said. “I think it’s good for young coaches to not ever hesitate to take on rebuilds if they believe in it.
“Deal with all of the crap and nonsense for a little bit, but then start putting it together, start getting wins. We’re progressing but we’re not anywhere near where we want to be yet.”
Next, Miami will square off against Duke at noon ET on Saturday. The game will air live on ABC.
