WATCH: Yohandy Morales belts a solo shot to put Miami Hurricanes on the board vs. Canisius
Saturday’s 2022 NCAA Coral Gables Regional in Coral Gables, Fla. finally got underway, and the Miami Hurricanes got a solo shot early from Yohandy Morales to put them on the scoreboard against Canisius. Check to watch the solo shot from him below to cut the Canisius Golden Griffins lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
Morales earned Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball following the 2021 season. A member of the All-ACC freshman team, he hit .277 with 13 doubles, 10 home runs, and 43 RBIs in his rookie season last year for Miami.
Miami’s matchup with Canisius was originally set to be played on Friday, June 4, but inclement weather pushed the game back to Saturday evening. The Hurricanes currently have an overall record of 40-18 for the 2021-2022 college baseball season.
Miami slugger Yohandy Morales makes Hurricanes history
In blasting three home runs on Saturday night, Morales became just the fourth Miami baseball player in program history to hit a trio of home runs in a postseason game, joining Esquivel (1999), Kevin Brown (2001), and Scott Lawson (2010). The Miami native’s 1,200-plus feet of home runs and career-best five RBIs helped Miami comeback from a three-run deficit against the Canisius Golden Griffins.

“I was seeing the ball really well today, but I’m more excited about getting the win tonight,” Morales said following the win. “It doesn’t matter if I go 0-for-4 or 4-for-4, all that matters is we won the game.”
In the third inning, Morales was joined by ‘Canes slugger Jacob Burke in hitting a home run. It was Burke’s 13th deep shot of the year and it tied up the contest at 4-4.
The Hurricanes went on to defeat Canisius 11-6 in Saturday night’s matchup. Next up, the ‘Canes will face the winner of second-seeded Arizona and three-seeded Ole Miss at 3:06 PM EST on Sunday.
