Coen Carr posterizes Alcorn State defender
Michigan State’s electrifying freshman, Coen Carr, came into college basketball being well-known as one of the best dunkers the game has seen in quite some time. He posterized his first victim on Sunday against Alcorn State going up and over an ASU defender who was fully extended at the rim.
It was the first victim in his college basketball career. The Michigan State bench erupted following the epic jam.
Carr has had several spectacular dunks on Sunday, and that’s no surprise to anyone that’s seen his spectacular highlight reel coming out of high school. The game was televised on FOX.
Michigan State dominated Alcorn State on Sunday to the tune of an 81-49 beatdown, as expected. Carr stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, three rebounds, and one assist, in 24 minutes. In four games this year, he’s been averaging 4.8 points, three rebounds, and one block per game.
Carr was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 32 overall player in America, according to the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2023 cycle. The 6-foot-7 small forward was also rated as the No. 1 prospect in the state of South Carolina, according to those same rankings. He participated in the Rocket Mortgage High School Slam Dunk Championship. While playing in the Peach Jam in 2022, he averaged 8.7 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.3 steals.

When he chose the Spartans in the fall of 2022, Carr picked them over offers from Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Indiana, South Carolina, and many others.
Coen Carr will be an instant impact player in the Big Ten
Before the 2023 college basketball season, On3’s Jamie Shaw listed Top Ten Impact Freshman in the Big Ten. Carr checked in at No. 5 on that list and Shaw had plenty of words of praise for the superstar.
“Michigan State returns the majority of its starting minutes from a team that made a Sweet Sixteen run last season. That team last season also returns all three guards who started beside one another. Coen Carr is a wing; his length, frame, and explosion could also allow him to play the four as well. This season, opportunity might be the only thing that gets in his way of not being higher on this list. Carr is one of the league’s top pro prospects in the freshman class. His explosion can be breathtaking, which leads to game-changing dunks and defensive plays. It would not surprise if he starts. It would also not surprise if he backs up at the three and four spots.”–Jamie Shaw, On3 National Basketball Recruiting Analyst
