Oklahoma City (Okla.) IMG Academy five-star defensive lineman David Stone will take an unofficial visit to Michigan State this weekend, he told SpartanMag’s Jason Killop.

Stone is the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in Florida.

On Dec. 23, Stone revealed his top 10 schools, which included Oklahoma, Texas A&M, USC, LSU, Oregon, Alabama, Michigan State, Miami, Tennessee and Florida.

“I feel like out of those 10 schools, those are probably the most realistic options for me to go to,” Stone told On3’s Chad Simmons last month. “I feel like I can take them seriously in this process and they take me pretty seriously as well.”

Michigan State, along with Oklahoma, has been one of Stone’s top schools throughout his recruitment. However, defensive line coach Marco Coleman is reportedly departing East Lansing to take the same position at Georgia Tech. And according to Stone, Coleman’s departure will affect his view of the Spartans.

“I wouldn’t say it hurt them, but I’m definitely a little bit reluctant now because I did plan to commit sometime soon, so I want to just play it a little bit slower now, see how things are and then go back up there and see how everything is without (him) and see who they bring in,” Stone said.
