During the NBA All-Star Game festivities on Sunday night, former Michigan State star Draymond Green revealed his efforts to recruit one future NBA star. Working as a sideline reporter for the Inside The NBA crew, Green interviewed Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker on the sideline. As the two shared their respect for each other, Green revealed that he was the one who hosted Booker for his official Michigan State visit during his recruiting.

Draymond Green helped Michigan State recruiting

As players and fans alike enjoyed the NBA’s marquee exhibition game on Sunday night, Spartans fans got a small taste of “what-if” while watching Draymond Green and Devin Booker. After asking Booker if the Suns were winning the Western Conference this year, Booker downplayed his answer and said that they were focused on one round of the playoffs at a time.

As the Inside The NBA crew teased Green that Booker was giving him a modest answer and “being nice” to him, Green laughed it off and revealed that the pair of NBA stars had known each other for longer than most people knew.

“I hosted D Book on his official visit at Michigan State when he was coming out,” Green said.

“That’s all we can tell you,” replied Booker, joking with Green.

Immediately after hearing that Green was part of Booker’s recruiting process, Kenny Smith teased Green that he was the reason Booker didn’t commit to Michigan State. Booker admitted that Green had nothing to do with his decision to commit to Kentucky. Charles Barkley than chimed in with another joke, saying that Michigan State couldn’t afford him with their salary cap. Barkley’s callout of money influencing recruiting sent the crew into another fit of laughter, but Booker was quick to downplay the possibility at all.

“Hey hey hey, chill,” laughed Booker. “Chill over there y’all.”

Whatever could have happened, Booker did not choose Michigan State in 2014, instead joining Kentucky and playing one season before making the leap to the NBA. Booker was drafted 13th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns, and this season marks his third as an All-Star.
