It’s been ten years since Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo has coached Golden State Warriors All-Star power forward Draymond Green. But that does not stop him from giving his former player some sound advice from time to time. After the Warriors went up 2-0 in the Western Conference finals against the Dallas Mavericks, Izzo sent green this message about his performance.

“Day, shaky, but you got the job done,” wrote Izzo in a text message to Green. “In my humble opinion, you all got caught up in the officiating. You’ve got to realize that you’re the leader and many follow. That being said, you hit a big 3-point shot and a couple of big stops were key. They follow your lead, but you’re still up 2-0. Good luck, brother.”

After the Warriors’ nine-point win in Game 2 against the Mavericks, Green openly admitted, on his podcast, he was out of his element for much of the game. He admitted to spending the entire game “pouting, frustrated, arguing with the referees.”

It appears Izzo’s words struck the right chord with the former Spartan as he put together a better performance in Game 3. Green went 5-10 from the field for 10 points, with five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block. And after spending much of Game 2 in foul trouble and eventually fouling out, Green was on the floor for 37 minutes for the Warriors’ Game 3 victory; as opposed to 28 minutes in Game 2.

Golden State will attempt to close out the series on the road in Dallas. Game 4 will tip off at 8:00 PM CT on Tuesday night. If Green and the Warriors can dominate the Mavericks once more, they will make their sixth finals appearance in eight years.

Nick Saban shares family still follows Michigan State, Tom Izzo

Nick Saban got his first big Power Five coaching job with the Michigan State Spartans, staying in East Lancing for five seasons. Along with his wife Miss Terry, Saban was able to start his family while coaching the program and took some time to reflect on that recently.

When speaking with Inside the Locker Room, Saban talked about how due to their upbringing, his kids are still pretty big Michigan State fans. More specifically, fans of head coach Tom Izzo and Saban claim they still take time to watch every single day. He even went as far as to call them”lifelong” Spartan fans.

“Everybody’s great, Miss Terry is great,” Saban said. “We have two grandchildren now and they’re doing great. Our kids are doing fine and we’re excited about having a great family. It’s been good for us and they’re all still Michigan State fans. They watch every Michigan State game, every Michigan State basketball game. They love Coach Izzo. That was kind of the heart and soul when they were growing up. That was the right age when we were there — really become lifelong fans.”
