Oregon, Indiana transfer EDGE Anthony Jones commits to Michigan State
Former Oregon and Indiana EDGE Anthony Jones has officially committed to Michigan State, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Jones spent his freshman season with the Ducks where he was redshirted, appearing in just two games versus Colorado and North Carolina in the Holiday Bowl. Recording one tackle in his eight total snaps for the 2022 season.
He transfered to Indiana ahead of the 2023 season where he made 12 game appearences with four starts, registering 12 tackles on the season before entering the transfer portal yet again this offseason. Choosing the Spartans as his next school of choice ahead of the program’s first season under new head coach Jonathan Smith. Parting ways with the Hoosiers following the team’s first spring practice under former James Madison head man Curt Cignetti.
Jones played high school football at Liberty High School in Las Vegas where he was a three-star recruit. Ranked the No. 576 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 8 player in the state of Nevada from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Michigan State transfer portal activity
Jones represents the 12th player to join Michigan State this offseason through the transfer portal, with 22 players parting ways with the program through the transfer portal as well. And given their gains and losses through the portal, the Spartans rank No. 53 on On3’s 2024 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings with an Index Score of -7. Not the strongest inaugural offseason for new head coach Jonathan Smith.
Michigan State’s biggest losses have been specifically at the quarterback position with Noah Kim, Sam Leavitt, and Katin Houser all departing for new programs. But with former North Dakota quarterback Tommy Schuster joining the Spartans this offseason along with Oregon State QB Aidan Chiles tagging along with Smith to East Lansing, Michigan State can still be rock solid under center this upcoming season.
