Former Michigan State running back Lorenzo White and Spartans shooting guard Shawn Respert are both finalists to be inducted into the 2022 class of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. Fans may vote for the former MSU stars using a link tweeted out by Spartans’ Twitter account.

Joining White and and Respert are former Michigan football stars Jim Harbaugh, Derrick Alexander and Jake Long. Wolverines basketball player Chris Webber, a member of the “Fab Five” in 1992, is also a finalist.

White attended Michigan State from 1984-87, after which he went on to enjoy an eight-year NFL career. During his time in East Lansing, he became the first Big Ten running back to surpass 2,000 yards rushing in a single season with 2,066 during the 1985 season. He was also the 1987 Big Ten Player of the Year, a two-time All-American and two-time Heisman Trophy finalist. His 4,887 career rushing yards rank first in Spartans history, and he was already inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2019.

Respert’s college career began in 1990, a few years after White had already left campus. Playing under Jud Heathcote, the shooting guard immediately made an impact to lead Michigan State in scoring during all four of the seasons he played. He left as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,531 points, a record he still holds today. He claimed not only Big Ten Player of the Year, but also National Player of the Year as a senior in 1995. His No. 24 jersey has been retired by the Spartans, and he was inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 2012.
