Joliet (Ill.) La Lumiere point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. has committed to Michigan State, he announced Thursday evening.

Fears is the No. 33 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 6 point guard and the No. 1 prospect in Indiana.

The 6-foot-1 Fears cut his list to eight this fall: Memphis, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Kansas, UConn, Indiana, and Missouri. But it was largely a two-team race between Illinois and Michigan State for much of the last few months. He visited East Lansing on multiple occasions, including two trips in the past three weeks. Fears is the Spartans’ first commitment in the 2023 class after Tom Izzo and Co. two prospects so far for 2022.

Playing up a year for Brad Beal Elite on the EYBL 17U Circuit last summer, Fears averaged 4.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
