Hialeah (Fla.) Westland Hialeah four-star cornerback Jamari Howard has decommitted from Michigan State. He announced the news on Twitter.

Howard had been committed to Michigan State since September 22.

“First and for most I would like to thank Michigan State University for considering me to be a part of such a great program,” Howard tweeted. ” After much thought and prayer and conversing with my family, I will be de-committing from Michigan State University and reopening my recruiting process. Thank you and god bless.”

Howard is the No. 79 overall prospect and No. 10 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 13 player in Florida.

On3 rates Howard higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, Howard is the No. 44 overall prospect in the country, the No. 5 cornerback and the No. 7 player in Florida.

Howard’s decision comes a few days after Gator Online’s Corey Bender reported that Howard had set an official visit with the Gators from June 2-4.

Florida extended an offer to Howard last summer.

“It’s a big school. There are great opportunities for me to go to the next level,” Howard previously told GO. “I like how they produce all their players and help them get to the league. Also, I like how they run everything and run their defense.”

Howard currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $125K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Where Michigan State’s class stands

Howard was Michigan State’s highest-ranked pledge in the Spartans’ 2024 recruiting class. With his decommitment, the Spartans are left with three pledges.

They are Murfreesboro (Tenn.) three-star cornerback Jaylen Thompson, Mt. Pleasant (Mich.) three-star offensive tackle Andrew Dennis and Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy three-star offensive tackle Logan Bennett.

Michigan state currently sits with the No. 48 class in the country and the No. 12 class in the Big Ten. They’re well off pace from where they finished during the 2023 recruiting cycle as the No. 22 class in the country and No. 4 in the Big Ten.

Howard is the second four-star recruit to decommit from the Spartans since the start of spring. River Rouge (Mich.) four-star wide receiver Nick Marsh decommitted from the Spartans on March 7 after being committed to Michigan State since last July.
