4-star LB Jayvant Brown commits to Michigan State
Deerfield Beach (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star linebacker Jayvant Brown has committed to Michigan State. He made the decision following an unofficial visit to East Lansing for the Spartans’ 27-21 win over Rutgers.
Brown is the No. 352 overall prospect and No. 29 linebacker in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 67 player in Florida.
On3 rates Brown higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, he is the No. 63 player in Florida.
A 6-foot-0, 200-pound prospect, Brown held 24 offers. He chose Michigan State over Alabama, LSU, Michigan and Ohio State among others.
“I need to see who wants to mess with me and who wants me,” Brown told On3’s Chad Simmons on Aug. 31, 2021. “It is important how they recruit me. I want to see who is into me.”

How Brown’s commitment impacts Michigan State’s 2023 class
Following Brown’s commitment, the Spartans’ 2023 recruiting class contains 12 commitments. It currently ranks No. 21 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 3 in the Big Ten.
The group is led by Norman (Okla.) Community Christian School four-star EDGE Bai Jobe, the No. 35 overall prospect in the 2023 On300. Right now, Brown is the seventh-highest-ranked commit in Michigan State’s class behind Jobe, Bettendorf (Iowa) Pleasant Valley four-star EDGE Andrew Depaepe, Fredericksburg (Va.) IMG Academy four-star linebacker Jordan Hall, Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson four-star offensive tackle Stanton Ramil, Detroit Cass Tech four-star defensive lineman Jalen Thompson and Dexter (Mich.) four-star tight end Brennan Parachek.
Brown’s pledge marks a big win for head coach Mel Tucker and his staff on the recruiting trail. Michigan State recently lost commitments from New Caney (Texas) four-star running back Kedrick Reescano and Austin (Texas) Lake Travis three-star quarterback Bo Edmundson.
Brown has an On3 NIL Valuation of $13.2K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
